Allied Acupuncture’s practitioners have become highly effective at using distal acupuncture treatment strategies for the fast and often dramatic relief of lower back pain including sciatica, upper back pain, shoulder and neck pain.
These conditions are so common in today’s society that they are the number one complaints we see in clinical practice.
These conditions have a multitude of possible causes including:
Repetitive stress or strain
Deviations in the spine, shoulders or hips
Bone growths, degradation (arthritis) or deformities
Bulging or herniated discs from accidents and injury
Back pain can vary widely from a dull ache, to sharp stabbing debilitating pains that either are worse in the morning and improve throughout the day or get worse as the day goes on. Sciatic pain is particularly heinous with unbearable burning sensations and/or electric shocks through the buttocks and down the legs in addition to sharp stabbing pains in the low back.
Shoulder and neck issues can also often involve varying pain sensations, limited range of movement, headache and tension, nerve pain, arm/wrist pain. These conditions impact severely on quality of life and can cause sleeplessness and reduced mobility. Many people who suffer these conditions experience an inability to work, suffering financially and family life is often negatively impacted.
Again, these conditions are often suffered longer than needs be simply because people are unaware of the effectiveness of distal acupuncture techniques. Some cases may require regular treatment over several weeks but the resolution of previously incurable pain is more than worth it. Even from a cost perspective the longest treat course for this type of condition would cost only a fraction of any surgical procedure and would be a wise first course of treatment.
Interestingly the American College of Physicians - a very influential medical body - recently released its recommendations for treating low back pain and stated that non-drug treatments MUST be recommended by doctors first, before resorting to drugs. They recommend acupuncture as a front line treatment. This non-drug treatment stance is related to the Centre for Disease Control's (CDC) finding that opioid (pain killer) drug use and abuse had become an 'epidemic', and that more people now die from drug overdose (prescription and elicit) in the USA than motor vehicle accidents.
We’ve found that acupuncture can be highly beneficial to people who suffer these kinds of pain, regardless of the cause. In our experience acupuncture reduces the pain of these conditions from the very first treatment in the majority of cases, and at each following treatment, improving quality of life. Also, that the underlying cause of the issue improves incrementally with each treatment and improves significantly, or even resolves completely, over the course of treatment.
Some people experience recurring episodes of back, neck or shoulder pain throughout there lives. Generally this occurs whenever they push themselves too hard or during times of stress. If you feel a chronic back, neck or shoulder issue coming on, it is ideal to seek acupuncture treatment as soon as you can to prevent it progressing to its most severe level. This should result in faster resolution and prevent increases in severity before it develops into a debilitating level of pain.
